Children’s programs

The William Grundt Memorial Library encourages families to experience the joy of learning together. The children's’ area in the library is a great space to do so.

There are a number of programs and activities at the library catering specifically for children and families. These include:

  •  Baby Rhyme Time
  •  Toddler Time
  •  Storytime
  •  Better Beginnings
  •  School holiday activities.

To make your visit more enjoyable, specially-arranged activities require advanced bookings.

Baby Rhyme Time

Age: 0 to 18 months old
Time: Tuesday 10.00 am

Come along and enjoy songs and rhymes for babies, and join in by clapping, tapping, wiggling and jiggling. Suitable for children.

Toddler Time

Age: 18 months to 3 years old
Time: Friday 10.00am

Entertain your toddler with bubbles, songs and stories followed by craft.

Storytime

Age: 3 to 5 years old
Time: Tuesday 11.00 am and Friday 10.30 am

Help your child develop pre-reading skills and spend quality time together in a fun environment. Each Storytime session includes bubbles, songs, stories and craft.

No booking required, just rock up!

Better Beginnings

The Better Beginnings program began in 2004 to encourage families to introduce books to their children at an early age. 

Birth to Two

The yellow new born Better Beginnings pack is available to all new parents and is distributed by Population Health.

Each pack contains:

  •  Board book
  •  Growth chart
  •  Ideas for books to share with your child.

If you or someone you know has not received a yellow Better Beginnings pack please drop in to the Library and we will happily provide you with one.

Sing With Me

The orange Sing With Me pack is available to all children who are two years of age. Sharing books, songs and rhymes from an early age helps to build language skills and improves future literacy outcomes.

Each pack contains:

  • A beautiful Australian children's picture book
  • A nursery rhyme booklet with activities
  • A CD of nursery rhymes
  • A nursery rhyme puzzle magnet
The Sing With Me packs are available in the Library.

School Holiday Programs


There is always something to do during the school holidays at the Library. The Library aims to provide a wide range of fun, educational and exciting activities during the holidays.

Youth programs

Pencil to Paper

Pencil to Paper is a youth reading and writing group open to all school age children. 

  • Write stories
  • Read and talk about books
  • Play games
  • Meet new friends
Pencil to Paper is held from 4 to 4:45pm each Friday during school term.

Class visits

Local schools can arrange for class excursions to the library. These visits are very popular with school children, especially during Children’s Book Week.

Class visits are available by appointment throughout the school year. Please contact the library on 9021 711 or through email  mailbag@ckb.wa.gov.au
