Ranger services education program

Many of the complaints and investigations that the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder deals with are due to a lack of knowledge or understanding of relevant laws and regulations.

As a result, Ranger Services has introduced an on-going education program which comprises:

  •  Fun and informative activities in primary schools;
  •  Newspaper articles; and
  •  Community group sessions.

The Ranger Services Education Program aims to:

  • Use plain English to increase understanding of relevant Acts, Regulations and Local Laws;
  • Dismiss some of the myths and misunderstandings of many Laws and Regulations;
  • Tackle safety issues that arise with children, especially when dealing with dogs (both at home and elsewhere);
  • Create a better awareness of what rangers do;
  • Develop better community relations between City and the public; and
  • Educate the public, especially children, on how wrong decisions affect the community and the environment.

Primary school education sessions

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Ranger Services conducts regular sessions with the local primary schools covering a number of varying subjects, such as:

  •  Dog safety and the Animal Management Facility;
  •  Litter awareness;
  •  Fire hazard reduction;
  •  Parking and local laws; and
  •  The role of a ranger.

These sessions normally run for more than an hour. However, they can be adapted to suit the needs of the class.
