Entries for the 2017 Art Prize open 1 July to 7 August 2017.

Guidelines

  • A non-refundable fee of $30 is required per entry.  A limit of two entries per entrant applies. 
  • A photo or image of the work is requested for curation planning purposes.  Please attach or upload an image with your entry form.
  • Entries will be judged across all award categories nominated.  Please note that some award categories have specific criteria.  Refer to the Award Categories page.
  • All artwork submitted will be judged. Efforts will be made to hang all artwork entered. If entries exceed available exhibition space the curator reserves the right to select final artwork hung for the exhibition.  The artists involved will be informed.
  • It is preferred that all entries are made available for sale. If your artwork is not for sale please ensure this is stipulated on your entry form. Entries not containing a sale price will not be accepted. The price must include a 25% commission fee.  Payment for sold artwork will be processed and cheques posted to the artist by Friday, 27 October 2017.
  • Entries shall be presented in a condition suitable for exhibition.  2D works received unframed or stretched without means of hanging will not be accepted.  Works not completely dry of paint or glue will not be accepted. Damaged or repaired work entered will not be accepted.
  • Each entry should state if there are any particular directions for the display of the artwork. All efforts will be made to accommodate artist’s requests for display; however the final display decision is at the curator’s discretion.


Making Payment

  • Online Payment is by EFT. Please ensure you use reference: 'Art Prize' 'Artist First Initial' 'Artist Surname'. BSB: 306-039  Account Number: 4593214. One transaction per person.
  • Phone/in Person: please phone the City’s cashier on 9021 9600 or pay in person to the City Cashier at 577 Hannan St, Kalgoorlie WA 6430 or at the Customer Service Centre, Shop 5, Market Arcade, Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie.  Please note the cashier is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
  • Post: please enclose a cheque payable to City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder with artist's name, artwork title, address and phone number clearly labelled to PO Box 2042, Boulder WA 6432.
     

Criteria

Measurements
Please note the following artwork dimensions. Artwork which varies from these size requirements will not be displayed due to space limitations. 

  • There is no minimum size for 2D or 3D artwork
  • Maximum size of 2D entries (including frame) will not exceed 130cm(h) x 90cm (w)
  • Maximum size of 3D entries will not exceed 130cm (h) x 90cm (w) x 90cm (d)
  • Weight of 2D entries is not to exceed 10kg
  • Weight of 3D entries is not to exceed 20kg
  • Diptych/triptych are considered to be one work made up of two/three parts.  Pairs or repeats of a work are not considered to be a diptych/triptych and will not be accepted.  A diptych separately framed is acceptable however an entry fee will apply for each piece.  All parts and their order must clearly be labelled.  Triptych works in separate frames will not be accepted. 

Framing and Hanging Requirements

  • All 2D entries must be recieved framed, ready to hang with suitable hanging devices, such as ‘D’ rings, cord or picture wire
  • Stand up table frames for photographs will not be accepted
  • Artwork without acceptable hanging devices will not be accepted
  • Each entry must state any particular direction for the display of artwork
  • Each artwork must be labelled on the back with artist name and artwork title.   It is preferred for judging purposes that the works are not signed.

Artwork Delivery/Collection

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has arranged a pick-up point in Perth and Kalgoorlie. The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will pay the freight charges for artwork transported between Perth - Kalgoorlie - Perth.

Please ensure:
  • Your artwork has been labelled with 'City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Art Prize' 'Artist Name' 'Title of Artwork'
  • All artwork received from Perth or by courier must be wrapped in bubble-wrap and cardboard (full boxes only) and ensure packaging is labelled.  Although all efforts are made, the same packaging is not guaranteed to be returned.
  • Artwork must be received at the Artist Chronicle on the date above. Artwork must be free of delivery charges.
  • If your artwork is not collected on the days and times as detailed above it will be freighted to you at your expense.

Courier


If you are couriering your artwork please read this IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  • Artwork must be received in Kalgoorlie on Friday 25 August between 12pm-1pm or 4:30pm-6:30pm, Saturday 26 August between 10am-12pm, or Perth on Wednesday 16 August between 2pm-5pm to the addresses as detailed above. Artwork will not be accepted at the collection centres outside of these hours as they will not be manned.
  • Artwork must be collected from Kalgoorlie on Tuesday 26 September between 12-6:30pm or Perth on Thursday 6 October 2pm-5pm.  Artwork cannot be collected at these collection centres outside of these hours as they will not be manned.
  • Please notify the Events Team by phone on 08 9021 9600 or by email to artprize@ckb.wa.gov.au if you are planning to send your artwork by courier. Outline your name, title of artwork, courier and scheduled time of drop off and collection.
  • Artwork must be received free of delivery charges.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure and check artwork is received and collected. If your artwork is not collected on the days and times as detailed above it will be freighted to you at your expense.
Terms and Conditions of Entry
  1. All entries shall be the original artwork of the artist.
  2. The artwork must NOT have been exhibited anywhere previously.
  3. Artists must be a resident of Australia and over 12 years of age.
  4. The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder takes no responsibility for loss or damage of artwork, including during transit. Insurance is the responsibility of the artist.
  5. The judges’ decision is final and feedback will not be provided to individual artists.
  6. The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Art Prize Sponsors reserve the first right of purchase of artwork prior to the Art Prize launch on Friday, 8 September 2017.
  7. An artists’ statement will only be accepted and displayed if it is included in the entry form and no longer than 75 words.
  8. Award winners, with the exception of the People’s Choice Award, will be announced at the Art Prize launch on Friday, 8 September 2017. The People’s Choice Award will be announced before the final weekend of the exhibition on Friday, 22 September 2017.
  9. Artists are responsible for ensuring the category selections are completed correctly on the entry form to ensure they are judged in the appropriate categories.
  10. If an artwork sells, City Officers will contact the artist concerned. If you are not contacted, please ensure you pick up your artwork on the designated day and time.
  11. City Officers reserve the right to take photographs of entries for publicity and archival purposes.
