Guided tours

Please contact the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Sustainability Officer to book any of the following educational tours:

South Boulder Waste Water Treatment Facility

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is one of the largest local government re-users of effluent water in Australia

We can arrange guided tours of the South Boulder Waste Water Treatment Facility, where waste water from our local sewer system is treated for reuse.

We recommend that this tour be paired with a tour of the Water Corporation's Mt Charlotte facility.

Recycling Material Recovery Facility

Guided tours of Cleanaway's Recycling Material Recovery Facility will show what happens to the contents of your recycle bin once it is emptied.

Yarri Road Refuse Facility

Guided tours can be arranged of the Yarri Road Refuse Facility, where you will learn about the complexities of operating a landfill.

Waste Wise Schools program

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is very supportive of the Department of Environment and Conservation's Waste Wise Schools program, and there is now a strong network of participating schools in the region.

This program provides grants for schools to implement waste minimisation projects and activities. It also has many excellent resources and curriculum-linked activity packs for teachers and schools.

The Goldfields Case Study Booklet (PDF) documents some of the excellent work undertaken by Goldfields schools in the program.
