Outback on Ice

Past Event

We are thrilled to announce this year’s Pop-Up Project event… Outback on Ice!

Get ready for an unforgettable experience as we transform our outback desert city into a wonderland featuring a huge outdoor ice-skating rink from Saturday 15 April to Sunday 23 April!

The event features a range of sessions suitable for age 3 and over and skill levels, making it the perfect day out for families, friends, and solo adventurer. Whether you're a seasoned skater or a first-timer, we have something planned for everyone.

For our youngest visitors (3+ years), we have a special toddler session where parents can introduce their little ones to the joys of ice skating in a safe and supportive environment. Our team will be on hand to assist and guide both parents and children as they take their first steps onto the ice. For those that need a bit of extra support on the ice, we have ‘support penguins’ available for a $5 fee.

For those looking to hone their skills, our daily skating sessions are the perfect opportunity to perfect your technique.

Our adults-only ice-skating sessions will feature a live DJ and a pop-up bar from the fantastic Lucky Bay and Esperance Gin Distillery.

Of course, no outing is complete without indulging some delicious food and drinks. Food trucks will be on hand at our opening and closing weekends to serve up a range of tasty treats and refreshing drinks, perfect for refueling after a session on the ice.

Come and join us for a truly unique experience that combines the breathtaking beauty of our golden outback with the thrill of ice skating.

We can't wait to see you Outback on Ice!

FAQ's

Is the ice real?

How much are tickets?

Children (3 to 17 years) are $15, adults are $20. Group bookings for 5 or more in one transaction will receive a 15% discount.

How long does a session go for?

Each skating session goes for one hour.

What does the session include?

The session includes skate hire and 1 hour on the ice.

Are skating aids available?

Yes, penguin skating aids are available for $5 per session. They are more suited for the little ones, although adults are welcome to try them out too. There are only a limited number available, so pre-booking your aid is recommended.

What should I wear?

We strongly recommend wearing comfortable, warm clothing. Don’t forget to keep your fingers and toes warm, that ice rink is chilly! PLEASE BYO SOCKS.

Are discounts available?

Discounts are available for group bookings of 5 or more tickets in any one transaction.

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets can be purchased through Humanitix from 10am, Monday 13 March. Tickets are also available onsite if the session has not sold out prior.

Yes, all wheelchairs are permitted onto the ice.

How much are companions/carers?

Companions/carers are free of charge. They still need to purchase a ticket and produce a carers card at time of entry.

What size skates are available?

Skates range from a child’s size 12 to an adult size 13. We also have Double Runners available for the little ones that simply strap over the top of your enclosed shoe to keep your child on their feet for a bit longer. Double runners are limited so please arrive early if you require these.

Can I hold my baby/toddler on the rink?

Skaters are not permitted to carry babies or little ones on the ice. All skaters must wear ice skates when on the ice. Skaters can provide a helping hand (or use available penguin skate aid) to the younger skaters, however carrying them in arms is not permitted.

Where has the City sourced water for the ice rink?

The City is purchasing water from a local contractor under the event budget. To ensure we are being waterwise, the water will be pumped out following the event and reused on local recreational reserves where needed or pumped into local reserves.

What will you do with the water after the ice-skating rink is closed?

The water will be pumped out following the event and reused on local recreational reserves where needed or pumped into local reserves.
