The Eastern Goldfields Historical Society have released a commemorative calendar to celebrate the 125th
anniversary of gold discovery. In June of this year, Kalgoorlie will turn 125 years old after Paddy Hannan’s reward claim was lodged on 17th
Designed by photographic coordinator Claire Weir and collated by research volunteer Robyn Horner and EGHS executive officer Lucia Pichler, the calendar features 12 photos of Kalgoorlie’s humble beginnings from the mid-1890’s to the 1930’s.
The limited edition calendar celebrates the colourful 125 year history of Kalgoorlie and uses images and stories from the vast collection in the care of the Eastern Goldfields Historical Society. It includes a prized image of the construction of the original Exchange Hotel building, before the existing structure of the heritage-listed pub at the corner of Hannan and Maritana Streets was erected in 1901.
Taking into account local event dates from both the Kalgoorlie Boulder Chamber of Commerce and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the EGHS produced calendar also contains all national dates, school holidays and historical dates to celebrate the City’s birthday. The inclusion of the 125th
logo, affiliated to all 125 events celebrating Kalgoorlie’s birthday, also features in this special calendar.
Calendars can be purchased at the Eastern Goldfields Historical Society between 9am and 2pm, Monday to Friday. For more information, contact 9093 3360.
