You may have noticed the City’s call for nominations for the upcoming Australia Day Awards closed on Monday of this week. These awards allow us to recognise our community members, both individuals and groups, who contribute substantially and make our City a better place.
Each year a local citizen and one local community group in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will be eligible for the Australia Day Awards.
The recipients will be selected from people and groups who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years through active involvement.
In addition to that, the Walk of Fame Committee will consider the recognition of at least one outstanding Kalgoorlie-Boulder individual with a plaque to be placed on the Eastern end of Hannan Street in the Kalgoorlie CBD.
It would bring me joy to see you all come along to enjoy the Australia Day festivities at Centennial Park where we have the chance to share the day as a community and see the award recipients announced and celebrated.
Further to that, in light of recent events, it is noteworthy to recognise those who actively make our community a better and safer place each day.
Our local and national news has been filled with coverage of bushfires and road closures of which we saw Kalgoorlie-Boulder become an unprecedented stopover for travellers in the vicinity.
The free community dinner held at Hammond Park by Kyran O’Donnell MLA Member for Kalgoorlie for those stranded was a fantastic initiative. So many local businesses and organisations put their heads together to ensure that we could play our part and bring together something good from a difficult situation. Thank you to all involved and the several members of the community who got involved and volunteered their time.
It is the various stakeholders in our community who work together and do so all year round to ensure that we are actively prepared to face these testing times and I’d like to sincerely thank all individuals for their recent contribution and hard work in those challenging times.
