The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s 2017 Art Prize has now come to a close. This year’s successful event saw 255 art pieces submitted by 182 artists. Over 1,100 visitors from far and wide came to view the exhibition, and 24 works have been sold.
The winning piece for this year’s KCGM People’s Choice Award is called, Butt - On - Seat on Buttoned Matt
by local artist Janet Bajramovic.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had the courage to enter the Art Prize and I’m over the moon to win this award,” she said.
“I’ve been saving buttons for 15 years and it took me a good few weeks to finally put it all together. I love illusion work – I usually paint – but I thought I’d put it into 3D just for something different.”
CEO John Walker said the high quality of works entered in this year’s Art Prize was a reflection of the high esteem in which the event is regarded.
“We have had such positive feedback from all the visitors to the exhibition, which is fantastic,” he said.
“To have nearly 60% of works submitted by local artists, and to receive such fantastic feedback on the quality of the exhibition gives us a clear indication that the community values the Art Prize and the development of arts and culture in our City.”
The 2017 Art Prize Exhibition is open to the public until 25 September at the Kalgoorlie Town Hall. The exhibition is open from 10am until 3pm daily and entry to the exhibition is free.
