The Goldfields Arts Centre will remain closed for an extra week after the festive break, while repairs are carried out following six separate vandalism attacks on the building between Christmas and New Year.
The Goldfields Arts Centre was due to reopen on Monday 8 January, however due to the extensive repairs required, the building is now not expected to reopen to the public until Monday 15 January 2018.During this period, phone bookings and enquiries will be available during normal operational hours and internet bookings will be available around the clock.
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker said it was disappointing that the building had been targeted so heavily by vandals during the festive period.
“The Goldfields Arts Centre is a wonderful community facility that is used by people of all ages and backgrounds, so it is really disappointing to see it targeted by vandals,” he said.
“Our early estimates indicate we are looking at repair costs of at least $8000.We do have CCTV footage of the vandalism which we have provided to the WA Police, but if anyone has any further information, we encourage them to contact either the Police or the City.”
Anyone with information should contact Kalgoorlie Police Station on 9021 9777 or the City’s Executive Manager City Living on 9021 9600.
