The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has appointed strategic consultants PwC to undertake comprehensive research into the impact of FIFO employment arrangements on the Kalgoorlie-Boulder economy and community.
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker said the City was very keen to get the ball rolling on the research, and hoped to see some definite findings by the end of the year.
“We are already engaging in very positive discussions with the CEO of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy, and he has advised their members to cooperate with the City’s research, so we are expecting a very comprehensive range of data,” he said.
“We are also expecting the Productivity Commission’s report into Remote Area Tax Concessions and Payments to be released next month, and I hope they have taken on board the City’s submission regarding FBT and the impact it has on FIFO work forces.
“All in all, there are a lot of things coming together now for the City to really step up its fight against FIFO.”
