The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is exploring ways to pursue tourism opportunities, in ways different to the past. This will include new strategy, different asset management approaches, marketing and promotions, financial investments and funding, product development and information dissemination.
Tourism is an important part of the City’s future diversified economy and is a key focus of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Growth Plan. Central to the new plans is the creation of a Tourism Advisory Board, which will operate at arm’s length from the City, but with its full support. It will comprise members who can initiate and drive the process at the strategic, not operational, level.
CEO John Walker said, “Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified people to join the Board. If you have experience in Executive Management, Law, Finance, Marketing, Asset Management or Property then please come forward. This is an opportunity to be in a think tank that will deliver favourable results for our City.”
Mr Walker added, “Kalgoorlie-Boulder is starting to build on its tourism profile, after being crowned Top Tourism Town in Western Australia last week. It’s important that a body can oversee this momentum, support the many business that provide tourism services and capitalise on opportunities. The City is taking a proactive approach to ensure potential is not lost and tourism bodies across the Goldfields have the right support and strategic advice.”
