Recycling services will return to normal for Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents as of Monday, 23 December 2019 after an unplanned disruption to usual recycling practice.
As a result of last month’s fire at Cleanaway’s South Guildford Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), a temporary measure was put in place to dispose recyclable material at the Yarri Road Refuse Facility until an alternative processing solution was found.
Cleanaway have now advised that recyclable material will be collected and sorted at the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC) facility as of this date.
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker said that previously not knowing the future of recycling for the City was a worry, but he was glad to see a resolution put forward.
“We understand that the news of having to send our recycling to the Yarri Road Refuse Facility was concerning, but thankfully it was a short term measure. We have now been offered an acceptable solution.”
“I encourage residents to continue to recycle right and play our part in diverting unnecessary waste to landfill”, he said.
Cleanaway will have additional bins available for cardboard disposal over the Christmas period at their West Kalgoorlie depot.
