At approximately 2:30pm today, a gust of wind lifted a sheet of fibreglass insulation onto power lines in the vicinity of the C.Y O’Connor precinct.
The event caused a localised power outage for areas of Kalgoorlie, South Kalgoorlie and Boulder.
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker said the event was unexpected however authorities responded immediately to the site.
“Emergency services are currently managing public access to the area.”
“Unfortunately the insulation has a foil backing which has caused the lines to arc, tripping circuit breakers at the Piccadilly Street power sub-station,” he said.
Western Power is currently removing the insulation and working to safely restore power well ahead of the estimated restoration time of 6:00pm.
