How does the CKB use its Recycled Water?
The City has an effluent reticulation pipe network of approximately 50 kilometres throughout the urban area with a number of storage tanks and dams for pumping onto various sites. The City has approximately 65 hectares of turf and garden under irrigation from this source - not including schools.
In addition to this the City also harvests stormwater for mixing with treated wastewater for irrigation purposes.
The treated water is disinfected with liquefied chlorine gas and filtered at various sites as the water is distributed through the city. Water distribution is controlled via a centralised computer network using Citect SCADA technology along with alarm protocols and shut down systems.
