South Boulder Wastewater Treatment Plant
The City has commenced a 2 year, $8 million upgrade of the South Boulder Wastewater Treatment Plant. This upgrade will improve the effluent quality and increase the capacity of the plant sufficient to treat the City’s sewage out to 2040. The upgraded plant will have 2 waste treatment streams – a traditional Wastewater Stabilisation Pond system and a high energy aeration tank system. It is expected the first major earthworks contract will be let in the second half of the 2020 calendar year.
On-going sewer works
The Wastewater Services Team at the City Council are always trying to improve the City’s Sewer System.
We do this by completing a number of different tasks on the City’s main sewer system.

Access Chamber Refurbishment:
Access chamber refurbishment is the replacement of sewer lids and/or surrounds and refurbishment of the internal structure. Some reasons for replacement could be:
  • Broken/cracked/unsafe lids and surroundings
  • Lids that are unable to be opened
  • If access chambers need to be lifted to sit flush with current surroundings
  • Cracks or internal wall damage inside the chamber
Sewer Jetting:
The council maintain a current sewer jetting regime to assist in the maintenance of the sewer system. By jetting the sewer we are cleaning away any debris, possible obstructions and grease/fat residue.

Sewer pipe refurbishment:
To maintain a functional sewer system upgrades are sometimes required.
  • Replacement of old/broken sewer pipes
  • Slipped/broken sewer junctions
  • New installation of sewer junctions for new constructions
  • Tree root removal
