Golden Utopia Exhibition Opening Night
Past Event
Golden Utopia is a solo exhibition by NT-based artist Georgie Mattingley. Featuring painting, video and staged photography with the local community, this new body of work is a culmination of over two years’ research and two artist residencies at the Goldfields Art Centre.
A painted mural featuring the Super Pit Mine is transported to various locations around the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Community members pose for their portrait taken in-situ, grabbing snapshots of the City’s cultural life, from Hannan’s Park to Boulder Camp, the Diggers and Dealers conference and the Main Reef Tavern. This exhibition explores the multi-layers of culture and social class that are shaped by the mining industry in Kalgoorlie-Boulder - a place where work, wealth, family, nightlife, gold and ‘Utopia’ can be found.
