The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is proud to partner with International Art Space to feature as one of twelve Western Australian rural and remote communities to host an Artist in residency, between 15 September and 29 October 2021.
The Rural Utopias program is a multi-year program of residencies and socially engaged art projects in regional and remote WA communities which includes fourteen artists from across Australia.
Artist Georgie Mattingley from Alice Springs has been immersing herself in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community since mid-September with the plan to display the final large scale portable mural in a shop front window.
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Acting CEO, Alex Wiese expressed his keen interest in securing artists in residency through programs such as the Rural Utopiasas it provides a hands-on skills development opportunity for local artists.
“The variety of visiting artists that the City brings to Kalgoorlie-Boulder is always impressive, with demonstrated outcomes of upskilling our local artists, and increasing our community’s scope of exposure to other forms of art and talent,” Mr Wiese said.
Georgie will be conducting a series of free painting classes over the six-week residency period that explore the theme of rural utopias through local landscape and culture.
The first workshop will take place at the Goldfields Art Centre, Wednesday 13th October 5.30pm until 8.30pm with and the second will take place at the Boulder Town Hall, Saturday 23rd October between 10am-2pm.
