The City is pleased to introduce a series of free educational workshops and a rebate scheme to support household organic recycling in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
The first two workshops will see renowned gardening guru and waste educator Peg Davies visit Kalgoorlie-Boulder to give residents her tips for composting and managing a worm farm at home.
Peg has been educating the Western Australian community about waste for over 15 years, running workshops for businesses and schools. She’s also a regular on the ABC’s Gardening Australia television show and is passionate about using what we have and making sure nothing goes to waste.
Mayor John Bowler said he was pleased Council endorsed the implementation of an incentive scheme and series of educational programs for the community.
“The City currently offers a kerbside bin pick-up service for waste and recycling and is now pleased to introduce a new initiative for green organic waste.”
“We want to help residents better understand the ins-and-outs of composting and how to start a worm farm, to help reduce the amount of organic waste in households.”
“Composting our food scraps and yard waste will reduce the amount taken to landfill, greatly benefit our natural environment, and helps to ensure a clean and sustainable city for the future.”
“In addition to providing these workshops at no cost, we’re also pleased to announce that residents who attend will be eligible to apply for a $50 rebate towards the purchase of a composting unit.”
The free workshops will be held on Tuesday 4 April (Composting) and Wednesday 5 April (About Worm Farms) from 6pm to 7pm at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community Garden, 39 Memorial Drive West Lamington.
