Goldfields employers are being encouraged to provide feedback on a regional Goldfields labour program to help get more skilled workers in critical industries into the region.
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has launched a survey to gather feedback from local businesses about their use and understanding of the Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA).
The DAMA is a five-year labour agreement between the Federal Government, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Shires of Coolgardie, Dundas, Esperance, Leonora, Menzies, and Ravensthorpe, which commenced in July 2019.
It aims to attract skilled migrants to work and live in the Goldfields DAMA Region, allowing employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers in specified industries that are currently experiencing critical skill and labour shortages.
As the local service provider of the agreement, the City wants to hear from employers about what they see as the benefits of the DAMA, any concerns they have, and how they would like to see it better promoted. This includes information about occupations employers would like to see added to the list of occupations in the DAMA.
Laverton employers are also encouraged to complete the survey, to gather more information for the Department of Home Affairs about the Shire of Laverton’s current application to join the DAMA.
Acting City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chief Executive Officer David Trevaskis said the survey was an important opportunity for employers to have their say.
“Being a Federal Government initiative, and as the representatives for the Goldfields DAMA, it is important for us to gather information from local businesses so we can inform the Government of our local needs.”
“We want to help employers strengthen their workforce and get the staff they need, and the provisions within the DAMA can definitely assist with this.”
“If you are a local employer, please help us improve and better promote the DAMA so we can get more skilled workers into the Goldfields,” said Mr Trevaskis.
The survey is open until Friday 21 April and is available on the City’s community consultation platform yoursay.ckb.wa.gov.au
