The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has been awarded $25,000 through the Western Australian Bicycle Network (WABN) grants program (Department of Transport) engaging the services of Civilstorm to commence the design phase of the extension of the City’s bike path.
The design will focus on extending the existing Forest Street bike path from Wilson Street (Kalgoorlie Train Station) to the Intersection of Lane Street and Hannan Street. The WA Bicycle Network Grant funding will add 650m of bike path connecting the existing northern and southern networks.
Engineering Services Team Leader Johannes Prinsloo has confirmed that this project has progressed into the design phase for this financial year. Construction is expected to take place in the 22/23 financial year with more funding from the WABN.
“The project is about enhancing liveability and connectedness in the City for family and workers to commute in a more sustainable way, while promoting safe cycling to and from the Kalgoorlie Central Business District,” Mr Prinsloo said.
The paths are also expected to provide additional use to tourists visiting the City by providing safe and family-friendly accessibility to varying facilities around the City.
The plan is partly funded by the Department of Transport (DoT) Regional Bicycle Network (RBN) grant and developed according to the proposed additions to the cycling network were formed through stakeholder engagements across the locations of the proposed path.
The City of Kalgoorlie Boulder continues to provide and maintain a bicycle network for the City that is safe to current standards and provides the facilities and services to encourage higher use within the community.
