The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Announces the Art Prize Theme for 2022

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s esteemed regional art competition, Art Prize, is back for another round in 2022 and the theme this year is…no theme!

After significant consultation with community art groups, artists, and creative professionals in Kalgoorlie-Boulder the consensus was to trial a year whereby there is no dedicated theme for the competition.

Feedback confirmed that by doing so, the completion would attract more artists to enter the competition and provide increased time for artists to plan and create their works.

The long-standing event has become an important occasion in the Western Australian arts calendar. The Art Prize is an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and embrace our regional creative industries.

Important dates:

  • Registrations open: Tuesday 1 March 2022
  • Registrations close: Thursday 30 June 2022

Mayor John Bowler said last years’ event attracted 138-artist entries, 2,000-exhibition attendees and 300-awards night attendees and he hopes this year will attract even more artists and attendees.

“The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Art Prize has a strong reputation, and the City is continuing to develop and grow the event,” he said.

“The Art Prize offers an opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their work across a range of mediums including sculpture, jewellery, drawing, digital art, upcycling, photography and painting to ensure a vibrant curation at the Goldfields Arts Centre for those attending the month-long exhibition,” said Mayor Bowler.

Keep an eye out on City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder | Facebook for further details in the coming months as the City welcomes registrations for the event and announces the exhibition dates.
