Residents are encouraged to vote for City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder employees and initiatives in the 2023 National Awards for Local Government.
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is recognised for achievements across three categories in this year’s Awards including:
- Women in Local Government - highlighting the work of Director of Community Development Mia Hicks and Manager of Community Development Lauren Chapman-Holle.
- Cohesive Communities – for work undertaken to establish the City’s inaugural Aged Friendly Strategy
- Regional Growth – for the City’s efforts to increase economic diversity for the work undertaken to support the Lynas Rare Earth Processing Facility.
Mia Hicks is the only female Director at the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and draws on over 10 years’ experience of working in Local Government and consultancy services. Mia has led many projects and initiated policies across industry, development, and in particular community development.
She advocates for City programs that encourage greater representation for women, our First Nations community, youth, and seniors as well as ensuring access and inclusion are at the forefront of all project planning.
Lauren’s experience in Local Government spans 17 years, in the areas of communications, public relations, policy and community development. She has developed and overseen various workforce initiatives which empower women, most recently the City’s successful application for a childcare education scholarship fund, facilitating the study of eight women, whose work will in turn permit multiple women to work outside the home and pursue leadership opportunities.
She oversees the City’s just-launched, inaugural Age Friendly Strategy, which overwhelmingly supports women, and is a longstanding Australian Services Union representative, being named 2022 WA Local Government Divisional Delegate of the Year.
The Regional Growth Category highlights the City’s efforts to pursue strategic partnerships, particularly the $575M Lynas Rare Earths Processing Facility, which has boosted capability and productivity, supported local and indigenous procurement, fostered growth and self-reliance.
Acting Chief Executive Officer David Trevaskis said the City was excited to have three submissions in these National Awards, all well deserving of recognition.
