Kingsbury and Lord Forrest Parks will be unified into a central youth precinct following the election commitment of $2.1M from the State Government for the installation of youth elements in these areas.
The City has announced a request for quote from suppliers by Friday, December 31, 2021.
The project procurement will adhere to the City’s Purchasing Policy meaning preference will be given to local suppliers where their bid is deemed to be competitive.
Through consultation with families, youth and community leaders from 2018 to 2020, several elements are being considered in the masterplan for inclusion in the precinct including improvements to the skate park and playground equipment, a pump track and potentially even a multi-purpose court and hangout spaces.
The masterplan will realise a vision of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Youth Council to transform the existing space into a holistic and cohesive area that provides more activities and things to do for youth in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Not only will the space offer a safe and inviting space for young adults, but it will also attract families with young children with gazebos and BBQ areas for family gatherings and birthday parties.
More events will be held with upgrades to the stage being considered at Lord Forrest Park to allow additional lighting and a backstage area for talent.
The newly appointed Youth Mayor Emily Coate said she is excited to have the opportunity to be part of such a transformational project that will directly benefit the youth of our community.
“Having the opportunity to shape developments in the City is a really exciting step for young people in Kalgoorlie-Boulder,” said Youth Mayor Coate.
“My hope is that this process and the end result will empower young people to make bigger and bolder moves in the years to come.”
This project aligns with several community themes outlined in the City’s Strategic Community Plan, aiming to provide public spaces to youth which will enhance activities for the demographic and to be a unique youth destination in the region.
Further consultation with the Youth Council will be part of the design process and the community will be kept informed on the milestone stages of the project.
