About the Awards

Each year one local citizen and one local community group or event in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder are recognised as part of the Australia Day Awards.

Recipients are selected from people and groups who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, or have given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years through active involvement.


Award Categories:

  • Citizen Award
  • Young Citizen Award
  • Senior Citizen Award
  • Community group or Event Award
  • Volunteer of the Year Award

  • Nominees should reside or work principally within the locality of Kalgoorlie-Boulder
  • Awards may be granted posthumously in recognition of recent achievements
  • Groups of people or couples will not normally be eligible except when meeting the criteria for a community group
  • A person cannot receive the same award twice, but can be considered for another
  • Unsuccessful nominees may be nominated in future years
  • Sitting members of State, Federal and Local Government are not eligible for nomination for work undertaken in their official capacity

The winners will be judged on their active citizenship and:

  • Significant contribution to the local community;
  • Demonstrated leadership on a community issue relating to the enhancement of community life;
  • A significant initiative which has brought about a positive change and added value to community life; and
  • Inspiring qualities as a role model (individual or community group) for the community

Nominees for the group/event award category must demonstrate community engagement and meet any or all of the following criteria:

  • Group/event that creates community engagement
  • Created significant initiative that brought positive change

Nominations will close at 5pm Sunday 26 November 2023.

All winners of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Australia Day Awards will be selected from nominations received from the community. These will presented to the City of Kalgoorlie- Boulder Walk of Fame Working Group who will perform the duties of the judging panel.

The panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder reserves the right to redefine categories to accommodate outstanding nominations.

The addition of a Mayoral Award may be considered and approved by the panel.

Awards will be presented at the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Australia Day event, held at Centennial Park on 26 January 2024.
