The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is proud to announce the arrival of the region's largest Christmas tree!
Standing at an impressive 15 metres tall, the tree will be the third largest in Western Australia, and will be adorned with thousands of LED lights, creating a captivating and festive entry to the City.
The illuminated display, which is currently being erected in Centennial Park, will act as a centrepiece for the City’s Christmas Light Trail, which starts on 21 November.
The decision to place the tree in Centennial Park rather than St Barbara's Square was made after careful consideration of a number of factors, including the Kal City Centre (KCC) being in its final stages of construction and opening in early December, and ensuring the trial of the new tree was undertaken in an area that was large enough to safely set up such a significant display while KCC construction was being finalised.
The City will seek community feedback on the future location of the Christmas tree.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said he was excited for works on the tree to be underway.
“We are thrilled to unveil the region's largest Christmas tree right here in the beautiful Centennial Park," Mayor Wilson said.
“Providing our residents and visitors with something spectacular to look at and capture the beauty of this time of year is a special opportunity, especially given the number of schools and community groups who hold their concerts in Centennial Park at the end of the year.”
“Our aim is to create an enchanting display that will bring joy and wonder to our community. The tree is a symbol of that commitment and a reminder of the magic of the holiday season."
The tree will be part of the Christmas Lights Trail, a spectacular immersive lights display that spans the City from Loopline Park in Boulder through to Hannan Street.
The Christmas Lights Trail will run from 21 November until 24 December 2023.
