The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Awards recognise young people and people working in the youth space doing extraordinary work in our community. Whether it be for academic achievement, employment excellence, cultural leadership or community contribution, we want to highlight outstanding individuals and celebrate their achievements and all young people living.
Across six award categories, the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Awards acknowledge and celebrate those who have gone above and beyond. Each winner receives a $500 prize, and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder showcases their achievements.
Young Achiever Award
This award recognises young people who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their field of work, study, or personal development. It celebrates individuals who have gone above and beyond to accomplish significant goals, showing creativity, resilience, and determination, often overcoming challenges along the way. The Young Achiever Award highlights excellence and innovation that inspires others in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community.
Selection Criteria
- Aged 12 - 25
- Achieved excellence or performed to a high standard in their field of work or study
- Achieved a noteworthy personal accomplishment
- Developed an innovative or creative project/initiative
- Live, work or study in Kalgoorlie-Boulder
Young Tradesperson or Apprentice of the Year
Trades play a significant role in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder business community, and we want to support those young tradies and apprentices who are the future workforce in these industries. This award recognises young people who have performed highly in their roles as tradesperson or apprentices. They must have completed or are currently undertaking a trade with a registered trade organisation and have excelled in their work performance and/or related studies. They are vital team members who contribute to a positive work environment and positively influence work colleagues. They go above and beyond to get the job done and demonstrate a passion for the community they live and work within. So, we're calling for all Bakers and Butchers, Chefs and Carpenters, Electricians and Plumbers and everything in between!
Selection Criteria
- Aged 15-25
- Must either have completed or are currently undertaking a trade with a Registered Trade Organisation (RTO)
- Contributes to the team/work dynamic and is a positive influence on work colleagues
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and commitment to their role
- Goes above beyond when undertaking their work
- Excelled in their work performance and/or studies in their chosen field
- May have faced/overcome challenges or adversity which could have impacted their training
- Live, work or study in Kalgoorlie-Boulder
Young Cultural Leader
Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a diverse and multi-cultural city with a long history of residents from many different backgrounds. This award recognises young people from any cultural background advocating on behalf of their community. They demonstrate leadership qualities within their community while acting as a positive role model for young people of diverse cultural backgrounds. They are community-minded and maintain a strong connection to their country and/or culture, showing commitment to educating others on the value of culture. This award is for the countless young people contributing to the vibrant cultural fabric of our community.
Selection Criteria
- Aged 12 – 25
- First Nations young person or from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background
- Advocates on behalf of their community
- Demonstrates leadership qualities within their community
- Maintains connection to country and/or culture
- Commitment to educating others on the value of culture
- Community-minded and contributes broadly to the greater good of the community
- Is a positive role-model for young people of diverse cultural backgrounds
- Live, work or study in Kalgoorlie-Boulder
Youth Organisation of the Year
Organisations that run programs for young people and support the ongoing development and service delivery to Kalgoorlie-Boulder's young people are vital in the community. This award category acknowledges the outstanding achievements and contributions that youth-focused organisations or programs deliver to young people. To be eligible for this award, the organisation must have a primary focus or program providing services directly to young people aged 12-25. The organisation will be exceptional in their ability to relate to young people and deliver programs or services that positively impact the community and the young people they engage with.
Selection Criteria
- Can be any organization that is government operated (State or Federal) or not for profit
- The organization doesn’t have to be primarily a Youth organization, however, to be eligible have a significant ongoing program, service or operation delivered to young people.
- Must be delivering services or programs to young people aged 12-25
- Must be delivering services or programs in Kalgoorlie-Boulder
- Demonstrated excellence, passion and commitment to young people
- Demonstrated improved outcomes for young people
- Commitment to high professional standards, youth work principles and standards in the WA youth sector
- The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council is ineligible for this award
Young Changemaker Award
The Young Changemaker Award celebrates individuals or youth-led groups who are driving meaningful social change in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. This award recognises those who challenge the status quo, advocate for equality and justice, and create innovative solutions to address community issues. Young changemakers are passionate leaders who inspire others and make a measurable impact through activism, advocacy, or community projects.
Selection Criteria
- Individual or group led by young people aged 12–25
- Advocates for social justice, equality, or community improvement
- Demonstrates leadership and influence in creating positive change
- Uses innovative approaches to address community issues
- Lives, works, or operates in Kalgoorlie-Boulder
Young Community Champion
The Young Community Champion award recognises young people who have a community-focused mindset and contributes broadly to the greater good of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community. Their achievements have been undertaken on a volunteer basis and demonstrated leadership on community issues relating to enhancing community life. They demonstrate inspiring qualities as a role model and go above and beyond to support those within their community.
This award is selected by the Youth Council from nominations received across all award categories.
