Residents and visitors can look forward to a jam-packed Australia Day this Friday with several City events planned.

The day will kick off with the annual Great Aussie Breakfast in Centennial Park from 7am, where attendees can enjoy a hot breakfast prepared by the Kalgoorlie and Boulder Rotary Clubs for a gold coin donation.

Formal proceedings begin at 8am, with the City welcoming new citizens in a special Australia Day Citizenship ceremony, followed by the annual Australia Day Awards.

Mayor Glenn Wilson says he looks forward to the public holiday event hosted by the City each year.

“We have a lot to celebrate here in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and it was great to have many valued community members nominated for the Australia Day Awards this year.”

“There are many people in our city who deserve to be recognised and celebrated for their outstanding contributions to our community. Announcing the Award winners on January 26 fills me with pride,” said Mayor Wilson.

“We will also welcome new Citizens on the day which is always a personal highlight.”

This year, the newest Walk of Fame inductees will also be announced at the Great Aussie Breakfast event.

Following the formalities there will be plenty of family fun on hand, including the re-introduction of Aussie games and competitions such as, meat pie eating, thong throwing and an esky race. Residents are also encouraged to wear their best Aussie outfits for the best-dressed competition, with several prizes to be won.

The Goldfields Oasis will host a free inflatable fun day from 11am-2pm. Pool entry fees apply with free access to a range of inflatables during the event.

The evening will see the first instalment of the City’s popular Sunset Concert Series, beginning at 6pm with Abbacadabra, giving the audience an authentic, live ABBA experience.

The concerts are free to attend, with residents encouraged to bring a picnic or support local vendors on the night.
