Council has endorsed the City’s 2022/23 Annual Report, noting a year of significant achievement.

The Report outlines how the City has made progress toward the outcomes outlined in the Strategic Community Plan (2020/30). Areas of achievement include the efforts to improve services for older residents, including the development of the inaugural Age Friendly Strategy, hosting the 2023 WA Regional Tourism Conference, and installation and unveiling of the ‘Karlkurla’ Landmark Sculpture.

Mayor Wilson said the Annual Report provides a way for the City to report back to the community and stakeholders, not only on the management of City funds but also on the big wins for the year.

“Many new initiatives were developed and launched during the 2022/23 year and we are really proud of the progress that our City is making towards achieving our strategic goals.”

“We undertook mobility mapping with partner Briometrix to see how we can improve our footpaths and accessibility around our Central Business Districts, we brought an ice-rink to the Goldfields for the first time and started waste educational workshops – just to name a few important outcomes.”

“Most notably the City continues to be one of the most generous when it comes to community grants and sponsorships with $862,196 provided in community grants and $1,425,736 in sponsorship of events and Partnership Service Agreements.”

“Our Roads Renewal Program saw 43.6kms of roads sealed or re-sealed and 17.1 asphalted. We also continue to be environmentally responsible with 1,611 tonnes of recycling collected from residential properties and 18% of waste diverted from landfill.”

The City also recognised their hardworking staff, who received several significant state and national awards including the Women in Local Government, LG Professionals Innovative Management Initiative Award, WA Regional Capitals Alliance Most Accessible Community Awards for Digital Technology, Regional Golf Course of the Year, and more.
