No Parking Stress at St Barbara’s Square grand reopening

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is pleased to announce they will be reopening the multi-level car park on Brookman St from this weekend.

This creates additional parking for the Kalgoorlie Central Business District (CBD) just in time for the grand opening of St Barbara’s Square (a milestone in the Kal City Centre redevelopment project) and the St Barbara’s Day Parade this Sunday.

Both levels of the unoccupied car park will open from 7am Saturday, 2 December, also supporting the busy Christmas retail period.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said the decision will assist in alleviating the pressures of finding parking in the Kalgoorlie CBD and provides easy access to the long-awaited redeveloped St Barbara’s Square.

“Opening the Brookman St car park is a viable solution to parking during this weekend’s exciting events - the St Barbara’s Parade and the reopening of St Barbara’s Square.”

“It’s going to be a very busy weekend for our city, also possibly a very hot one, so we don’t want community members to not attend because of parking issues,” he said.

“Its opening comes at the perfect time for this weekend; however, it is also an ongoing incentive for residents to shop locally this holiday season. They will now be able to come into town, find a place to park, and support our local businesses who give back to our community.”

The transformative Kal City Centre redevelopment project has revitalised St Barbara’s Square into a vibrant urban space, embracing the needs of families, residents, businesses, and visitors to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Designed to breathe new life into Kalgoorlie’s Central Business District, the precinct boasts a nature playground, water play area, alfresco dining, and entertainment areas.

Additionally, St Barbara’s Square will feature one of the state’s largest First Nations art installations, showcasing the work of 15 local and regional artists celebrating the region’s rich history.

Temporary toilet facilities will be available behind the Market’s Arcade, which will open from Sunday 3 December, and open daily from 7am – 5pm. This block features male, female and universal access toilets and will be cleaned regularly. Permanent toilet facilities will be constructed early in the new year.

A community event is planned for the grand re-opening 9am Sunday, 3 December 2023, with activations in St Barbara’s Square and the Santa’s Grotto, before the commencement of the St Barbara’s Parade.
