Frequently Asked Questions

What's changed from previous years?

The Grants Program has been refreshed to provide a clearer, more structured and outcomes‑focused approach.

There is now a stronger emphasis on:

  • demonstrating clear community benefit
  • impact over activity
  • realistic planning and delivery
  • accountability and acquittal of funds.

This means applications need to demonstrate not just what you will deliver, but the difference it will make.

All applicants are also now required to meet with the City’s Community Development team before applying.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants include:

  • not‑for‑profit organisations
  • incorporated community groups
  • clubs and associations
  • social enterprises
  • registered charities

Individuals may apply where supported by an eligible auspice organisation.

All projects must be delivered within the City of Kalgoorlie‑Boulder boundary and provide a clear benefit to the local community.

Why do I need to meet or speak with the Community Development team before applying?

The pre application meeting is an important step designed to support applicants and help strengthen applications. This conversation gives organisations an opportunity to:

  • confirm their eligibility
  • discuss the most suitable grant category
  • understand funding conditions and expectations
  • clarify program requirements
  • reduce the likelihood of submitting an application that doesn’t meet the criteria.

Following this meeting or conversation with the team a link to the Smarty Grants Application Portal will be sent to you.

Where is the application link?

A link to the Smarty Grants Application Portal will be sent to you following your meeting or discussion with the Community Development Team. To contact the team call (08) 9021 9600 or email CAS@ckb.wa.gov.au

What makes a strong application?

Successful applications clearly demonstrate:

  • a well‑defined community need or opportunity
  • strong alignment with the City’s strategic priorities
  • clear and measurable community benefit
  • realistic timelines, budgets and delivery plans
  • the organisation’s capacity to deliver and manage the project

All funded projects must be completed within the approved timeframe and fully acquitted, demonstrating how funding was used and what outcomes were achieved.

Where can I find eligibility requirements and guidelines?

The City's Community Support Handbook details all funding and financial support provided by the City and ways that our community can access this support.
