Cat Ownership
The Cat Act 2011 requires that all cats over six months of age must be sterilised, microchipped and registered. Cat owners must contact their local veterinarian to arrange sterilisation and microchipping before registering their cat.
Under the Cat Local Law 2016, it is an offence to transfer ownership of a cat — whether by selling, trading, or giving it away — unless it has already been sterilised and microchipped. This rule applies to all cats, regardless of age.
A permit is required to keep more than two cats. Permits are available from the Animal Management Facility or online.
