University Departments of Rural Health are academic centres based in rural and remote Australia funded via the Commonwealth Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training program.
Established in 2023 at Curtin's Kalgoorlie Campus, the Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (GUDRH) aims to strengthen the supply, capability, and impact of healthcare graduates in the Goldfields region and in doing so help address healthcare disparities in our rural communities. The focus of the GUDRH is multifaceted and includes:
- Providing health science students from Perth across Australia with enriching and rewarding placement experiences throughout the Goldfields region
- Increasing access to health care careers for people of the Goldfields
- Fostering equity of access to tertiary education be developing mentoring and support programs to students
- Supporting the enhancement of local health professionals' capabilities
- Conducting rurally relevant research that sterns from the needs of, and aims to benefit, Goldfields communities
