The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder invites entries into this year’s Art Prize, with registrations now open.
The annual regional visual arts competition features artworks across multiple platforms and disciplines and welcomes applications from local and national artists who can showcase their art and win a share of $40,000 across 10 categories.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder has a growing reputation for being a hub for regional arts and culture, influenced by the long-standing prestigious exhibition and strong arts community. The Art Prize provides an opportunity to celebrate this artistic vibrancy and creativity within the local community and beyond.
For the third year, there will be no theme to direct the artwork submissions following the success of the 2022 and 2023 Art Prize. This provides artists with creative freedom and more time to plan and prepare works, which the City anticipates will attract an increase in entries.
The City provides a free pick-up freight service for entries coming from Perth, Esperance, Merredin, Laverton, Leonora, and Menzies each year. It is a great opportunity to showcase artwork from these regional areas, many of which often don’t have local exhibitions of this scale.
Mayor Wilson said that he is looking forward to the event, saying it was an opportunity for the local arts community to exhibit their work before experienced judges, as well as residents and visitors to Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
“This annual Art Prize has become a highlight in the WA arts calendars and provides an opportunity to highlight incredible artistic talent both locally and from around Western Australia.”
"Every stroke of the brush, every sculpted form tells a story, and there's no shortage of inspiration for artists seeking to leave their mark.”
“Whether you're an emerging talent or an established artist, this is your chance to shine amongst a high calibre of work, and I encourage you to make a submission.”
Registrations for the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder 2024 Art Prize close Sunday, 30 June 2024, with winners announced at the Awards evening held on Friday, 13 September 2024.
