The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Heritage Services team has been named finalists in the prestigious 2023 Western Australian Heritage Awards, being one of only three councils in contention for the Contribution by a Public or Private Organisation category.

The state-wide award showcases those demonstrating excellence in heritage preservation, adaptive reuse, promotion and tourism across seven different categories.

Based at the historic Boulder Town Hall, the Heritage Services team oversees the City’s extensive archives, art and memorabilia collection, and the Goldfields War Museum a popular attraction for both tourists and locals.

While preserving the region’s history, the team also curate exhibitions and displays throughout the year, run five heritage tours each week, offer school holiday activities and programs, and coordinate annual and anniversary celebrations, such as the notable festivities for Boulder's 125th anniversary last year.

The team spearheaded the redevelopment of the City's Goldfields War Museum, which successfully reopened its doors to the public in 2019.

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO, Andrew Brien congratulated the team on being named finalists for this prestigious award and acknowledged the City’s ongoing commitment to keeping the region’s unique history alive.

“This recognition is a testament to the team's unwavering dedication to preserving Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s rich heritage and honouring its past for the benefit of future generations.”

“The unique origins of our city, from the gold rush to preserving the memory of our past servicemen and women, our History Services team are deeply committed in all that they do for our community.”

“These dedicated individuals bring passion, expertise, and resources to safeguard Kalgoorlie-Boulder's precious collections and stories. Being named finalists in this year's Western Australian Heritage Awards is a well-deserved recognition of their tireless efforts," Mr Brien said.

The winners of the 2023 Western Australian Heritage Awards will be announced on Friday 13 October.
