Exciting line-up of events and activities for Youth Week

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is gearing up for an exciting celebration of young people as Youth Week WA 2025 kicks off from 10 to 17 April.

Together with the City’s Youth Council, an exciting week-long lineup has been developed -filled with music, art, skateboarding, movies, and opportunities to learn, connect, and have fun.

The week kicked off with a youth night at the PCYC Kalgoorlie with high-energy games, inflatable sumo suits, music, Nintendo Switch gaming, smoothie bikes, and a silent disco. Skaters will take over the Egan Street Pop-Up Skate Park for three days of beginner-friendly skate clinics and a skate comp finale. Young people will have access to experienced mentors from Build-Up Skateboarding, who will also show them various tips and tricks on the ramps.

The City will host a Youth Day Out event on Thursday, 17 April, at the Lord Forrest Precinct. The event will start with music workshops run by musician Benny Mayhem from Monster Music Truck. These hands-on workshops are great for both experienced and aspiring musicians, who will then have the chance to perform in a community concert that evening.

To wrap up the festivities, the community is invited to kick back at an Outdoor Family Movie Night, screening Rise of the Guardians at the Lord Forrest Precinct. Attendees can bring their own blankets and snacks – free popcorn and icy poles will be provided.

Mayor Glenn Wilson said Youth Week is one of his favourite times of year, where he looks forward to the energy and positivity from young people across the city.

“Together with our Youth Councillors we’ve heard from young people across our city about the types of activities they like and the fact that they want more things to do during the holidays.”

“So, whether you’re into skating, music, art, or just want to hang out at the movie night, there’s something for everyone and best of all, it's free – just come along and get involved.”

All Youth Week events are drug, alcohol, smoke, and vape-free, and most are suitable for ages 12 and up. Children under 12 are welcome at selected events when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

In addition to Youth Week events, the City is also inviting young artists aged 12-25 years old to participate in the Youth Precinct Artwork Competition. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for youth in Kalgoorlie-Boulder to showcase their creativity and contribute to a public art installation at the new Kingsbury Park redevelopment.

The winning artist will receive a mentorship with a local artist, working collaboratively to bring their design to life. The final artwork will be displayed as a feature piece on an amenities structure at the new Precinct.

Designs should reflect a theme of connection to the community, personal identity, or the youth experience in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The top 20 designs selected by the City, will be displayed at the Goldfields Arts Centre and online from 29 April to 6 May 2025 for public voting. The artwork with the most votes will be announced as the winner at the Youth Awards on 17 May 2025.

Mayor Wilson encourages all young artists to make a submission and described this as a great opportunity to make their mark on a space that has been designed specifically for young people.

“We want young people to feel like the new precinct is their space, and right from the very beginning stages of concept planning, we have gone back to them to get their insights and feedback.”

“Now we’re looking to our young people to help with this featured design, and we can’t wait to see the incredible designs that will emerge from this competition and see how the winning entry is brought to life at the new Youth Precinct.”

Artists can submit their designs on CKB YourSay with entries closing on 23 April.
