Seniors Expo a one-stop-shop for information

This year’s Seniors Expo hosted by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will provide seniors with an opportunity to connect with local service providers and access a range of information in one place.

The Living Life Well – 2023 Seniors Expo is a key initiative as part of the City’s Age Friendly Strategy and aims to provide the senior community with a platform to receive valuable information, support, and resources to help them make informed choices.

Service providers who specialise in senior care, including mobility assistance providers, visual impairment, transportation services, and support networks will be at the event to speak to senior residents about what is available to them in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Mayor John Bowler said the City identified the need for such an event as part of research and consultation conducted as part of the development of the Aged Friendly Strategy.

“We found that there was a lack of knowledge from our senior community about the many services available to them here in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Access to information is often distributed by individual providers in a variety of ways, but all too often it is missed by some.”

“This event brings all providers together in one location and will really provide a one-stop-shop for everything seniors related, ensuring we are taking the steps necessary to inform our senior community about all the options available to them as they age in our city.”

"It's crucial for our seniors to have access to these resources, and this expo will be a great way for them to connect with the right people and services."

“We recognise the importance of addressing the challenges faced by our seniors and providing them with the knowledge and tools to overcome those challenges.

“The City, with the support and input of our Seniors Focus Group members, have planned this event and hope that it’s a step forward in bridging the information gap.”

"We are committed to creating an age-friendly community where our seniors can thrive and look forward to supporting and implementing more of the outcomes identified in the Aged Friendly Strategy in the near future."

Attendees will hear from Rebecca McIllroy, Director Country WA and Health Engagement, Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, and have the opportunity to tour the Men’s Shed, participate in a Ladies in the Shed workshop session, and enjoy a free BBQ lunch.

The Living Life Well – Seniors Expo will be held from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, on 26 June at the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre on Roberts St. Kalgoorlie. The event is free to attend, and no pre-registration is required.
