Kalgoorlie-Boulder Seniors are invited to the launch of the City’s first Age Friendly Strategy, and the start of the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre (EGCC) In-Centre Meals program next Wednesday 1 March.

The Strategy was developed following significant consultation with senior residents, service providers, and the City’s recently formed Seniors Working Group last year.

As part of the Strategy the City will work with stakeholders to deliver outcomes across outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, social participation, respect, and social inclusion, communication, civic participation, and employment.

The In-Centre Meals program is one of the outcomes of the Strategy and will feature a bi-weekly meal service at the EGCC from 1 March to 30 June 2023. Seniors can pre-order from a three-course meal cooked fresh at the EGCC kitchen, including soup, main, and dessert.

Lunch will be served at the Centre on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11.30-12.30 with the menu changing weekly and rotating every four weeks.

Mayor John Bowler said the City’s consultation with seniors and service providers was key in assisting with the development of the Age Friendly Strategy.

“We are proud of the work that has gone into developing the City’s first Age Friendly Strategy. Our vision is to ensure our older adults can live an engaged, healthy and connected life in the city now and in the future.

“The outcomes identified in the strategy are a result of consultation with the senior community, therefore providing informed and realistic action items.”

“We’re particularly excited to be offering a fresh meal service at the Centre twice a week. The menu was created in consultation with seniors and service days were selected based on their preferred days.”

The City kept costs to a minimum, with soup and dessert $2.00 each and $10 for main course.

Participants must be over 65 years of age and residents of Kalgoorlie-Boulder to be eligible to participate in the program. All members of the public are invited and EGCC Membership is not required.

Pre-order your meal by completing the webform here, in-person at the EGCC or by calling the Centre on 9021 9600.
