The 2026 Children’s Book Week theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’.
Book Week is one of Australia's most loved annual celebrations, shining a spotlight on the incredible books, authors and illustrators who inspire young readers. Each year schools, libraries and communities across the country come together to celebrate the joy of reading and Australian children's literature.
Reading plays an important role in a child's development helping to build language, creativity, empathy and confidence while encouraging a lifelong love of learning. Book Week provides the perfect opportunity to discover new stories, revisit favourite characters and celebrate the joy that books bring to our lives.
The talented illustrator for Symphony of Stories is the fabulous Briony Stewart, award-winning author-illustrator of ‘Gymnastica Fantastica’ and other children’s books. ‘I decided to try and show what stepping into a symphony of stories might be like. A huge colourful collection of characters bursting out of a book representing their different stories with weird and wonderful instruments.’ – Briony Stewart
