The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Art Prize will take over two of the city’s best-known cultural spaces this September, with a series of events celebrating the history of the competition before the 2026 exhibition opens at the Goldfields Arts Centre.
The program starts on Monday, 7 September, with Art Prize: In Conversation | Personal Narratives Through Art, giving the community the chance to meet the judges of this year’s Art Prize.
Judges Jack Collard, Andrew Nicholls and Fi Wilkie will take part in a panel discussion exploring how personal stories, identity and lived experience can influence creative practice and find expression through art.
The free event will be held at Boulder Town Hall from 5pm to 7pm, with refreshments provided and registration required.
The following day, on Tuesday, 8 September, Selected: From Prize to Collection will open at Boulder Town Hall, bringing together a selection of works acquired by the City through previous Art Prize exhibitions.
The exhibition features painting, sculpture, photography and other forms of creative practice, offering a look back at some of the artists and works that have been part of the competition over the years.
Boulder Town Hall is a fitting place for the exhibition, having been home to the Art Prize for many years before the exhibition moved to its new home at the Goldfields Arts Centre.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said the collection exhibition was a chance to look back at how the Art Prize has grown and the contribution it has made to the local arts community.
“The Art Prize has a long history in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and it’s great to be able to bring some of that history back to where it all started,” Mayor Wilson said.
“The City has collected some really interesting and important works through the Prize over the years. Some people will remember them from past exhibitions, while others will be seeing them for the first time.”
“Bringing these works back to Boulder Town Hall, a place that is part of the Art Prize’s own history, is a wonderful way to celebrate where the Prize has come from and the legacy it has created.”
Selected: From Prize to Collection will be on display at Boulder Town Hall from Tuesday, 8 September to Saturday, 17 October 2026. Entry is free, with opening hours from 10am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
The program culminates on Saturday, 12 September, when the 2026 City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Art Prize officially opens at the Goldfields Arts Centre.
More than 200 works by artists from across Australia will be on display, showcasing a diverse range of painting, sculpture, photography and other media.
The 2026 Art Prize will be open from 12 September to 16 October, with free entry.
