The City will enhance existing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Network and install new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology across the City thanks to a $1 million grant from the State Government.

The CCTV and ANPR Expansion Project is a joint initiative between the City, the WA Police Force and the State Government which will improve the visual surveillance network in key areas across the city and for the first time, provide vehicle recognition technology.

The City has worked closely with the WA Police Force to identify fourteen priority areas for the installation of the enhanced CCTV and four APNR locations.

As the City is one of the first major destinations along the East-West transit route, the ANPR technology is vital in monitoring vehicles entering and leaving Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Mayor John Bowler said this project will improve public safety not only for residents but also the many visitors who explore the city every year.

"We want our residents and visitors to feel safe in all areas of our city, so we’ve worked closely with the WA Police to identify and install the cameras in crime hot spots.”

“The CCTV and ANPR Expansion Project provides residents and local business owners added peace of mind and is an important deterrent for reducing crime.”

“Community safety is an important priority for the City, with approximately $70k of the City’s annual budget spent on maintaining the public CCTV network.”

“We thank the State Government for their funding support for this project and helping us take a significant step forward in making Kalgoorlie-Boulder a safer place for all.”

Police Minister Paul Papalia CSC MLA recently visited Kalgoorlie-Boulder to announce the completion of the project along with Ali Kent Member for Kalgoorlie MLA, Inspector Justin Tarasinksi from the Goldfields-Esperance District of the WA Police Force and Mayor Bowler.

Member for Kalgoorlie Ali Kent said it was a pleasure to announce the delivery of this State Government election commitment and that it's great to successfully deliver this project here in the Goldfields.
