Christmas is about to light up Kalgoorlie-Boulder, with the City inviting everyone to come together for a series of festive events offering plenty of celebration and holiday cheer. These Christmas events form part of the City’s Our Summer, Our City campaign, showcasing the many ways our community comes together throughout the season.
Festivities begin with the annual Christmas Street Party on Sunday 30 November. Where Burt Street, Hamilton Street and Loopline Park will come alive for an afternoon and evening of entertainment, children’s activities, market stalls and performances. Santa will make a special appearance to greet excited youngsters, and the evening will culminate in the lighting of the Christmas tree at 7.30pm, followed by a fireworks display to officially welcome the season.
Just days later, the celebrations continue with the Seniors Christmas Lunch on Thursday 4 December at the Goldfields Basketball Stadium. This cherished annual event brings residents aged 60 and over together for a complimentary three-course lunch, light refreshments, entertainment and plenty of festive cheer. Guests can look forward to a visit from Santa, complete with photo opportunities and a few special surprises throughout the day. The event is free to attend; however, registration is essential due to capacity limits and to finalise catering requirements. Carers are welcome to attend with a booking.
Rounding out the celebrations are the Twilight Christmas Markets at the Goldfields Arts Centre (GAC), on Saturday 6 December, featuring handmade gifts from stallholders, live entertainment, delicious food and a relaxed, festive atmosphere. With the ongoing construction of the Multi-Purpose Community Pavilion, attendees are advised that parking will be available this year along Cheetham, MacDonald, and Hanbury Streets.
This year, the community is also encouraged to explore the 2025 Christmas Lights Trail, featuring homes and businesses across Kalgoorlie-Boulder that go above and beyond with their festive displays. The trail map, created with input from local residents, offers a fun self-guided experience perfect for families and visitors. Details can be found on the Your Say CKB website.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said the Christmas season is a highlight of the year for many local families, including his own.
“As a dad, I know how much joy this time of year brings, not just for kids, but for everyone,” he said.
“Our Christmas events are all about creating memorable moments, whether it’s finding a handmade gift at the markets, watching the tree light up in Boulder, or seeing the joy on our seniors’ faces at their annual lunch.”
He said the City’s festivities are designed to be welcoming, relaxed and full of the small touches that make Kalgoorlie-Boulder feel like home.
“I hope everyone gets out and enjoys what’s on offer. Bring the family, support our local traders, follow the Christmas Lights Trail, and soak up the atmosphere. There’s something special about the whole city coming to life at this time of year.”
