Council resolved at a Special Council Meeting on Monday, 6 July to appoint an external Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Geoff Glass, for an interim period.
Mr Glass brings extensive senior leadership experience across local government, community services and major public organisations.
His previous roles include Chief Executive at the Shire of Christmas Island in the early 1990s, Director-level positions at the City of Subiaco and the WA Football Commission, and Chief Executive Officer at the City of South Perth from 2015 to 2021.
Mr Glass’ career has included a strong focus on organisational leadership, governance, financial management, service delivery, stakeholder engagement and supporting complex community-focused organisations.
The appointment is an interim arrangement while the City’s substantive Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Brien, remains on leave. Should he return to duty during this period, Mr Glass’ appointment as Acting Chief Executive Officer would conclude in accordance with the terms of the appointment.
In parallel, the City has commenced preliminary planning for the recruitment of its next Chief Executive Officer, ahead of the conclusion of the substantive Chief Executive Officer’s current contract in March 2027.
The City acknowledges and thanks Mr Mal Osborne, who has served as Acting Chief Executive Officer over recent months.
Mr Osborne has provided steady and experienced leadership during an important period for the organisation, supporting Council, the Executive Leadership Team and staff while maintaining focus on service delivery, financial management and organisational development.
Mr Glass and the Executive Leadership Team will continue to oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring continuity of service delivery and organisational stability during this period.
