As part of its Swimming Pool Barrier Inspection Program, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has inspected more than 600 pools this financial year and is ramping up efforts to ensure all properties meet required safety standards.
Under state legislation, local governments are required to inspect all private swimming pools and spas with a depth greater than 300mm at least once every four years. With approximately 2,300 registered pools in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the City must assess approximately 575 inspections each year to meet its compliance obligations.
To address staffing shortages and accelerate inspections, the City has partnered with the Royal Life Saving Club, a well-respected organisation that will assist with assessments, provide training to City staff, and deliver a targeted community awareness campaign.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said the City’s new partnership with Royal Life Saving would ensure the pool inspection program stays on track and compliant with safety standards.
“We’ve been working hard to keep up with our inspection schedule, and this partnership means we can continue that momentum with a strong focus on community safety,” he said.
“Their experience will also assist in educating pool owners about their responsibilities and the steps they can take to ensure their pools remain safe.”
As part of the updated work plan, the City and the Royal Life Saving teams will also re-inspect over 100 pools that have previously been issued with improvement notices.
Residents are reminded that pool safety is a shared responsibility. Please assist City Officers and Royal Life Saving representatives when contacted to arrange inspection appointments and site visits.
