The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has secured more than $74,000 in Lotterywest funding to support two of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s favourite community celebrations: the 2026 Christmas Street Party and 2027 Multicultural Festival.
Both events have come a long way since their early beginnings, growing into major celebrations on the local calendar that showcase the people, cultures and traditions that make Kalgoorlie-Boulder a special place to live.
In 2011, the original Lighting of the Christmas Tree event grew into a Christmas Street Party, while a cultural lunch in St Barbara’s Square evolved into a full-scale Multicultural Festival featuring community food vendors, performers and workshops. Over the years, the Christmas celebration has expanded to include Burt Street and Loopline Park, while the Multicultural Festival has grown across the Lord Forrest Precinct, the Goldfields Arts Centre forecourt and Cheetham Street.

“These events have been part of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for many years, and it’s great to see how far they’ve come. They’ve grown from smaller beginnings into major events on our local calendar, and the community continues to get behind them.
“Local groups, performers and businesses all play a part in making these events what they are today. It’s great to see that involvement continue, and that people are still turning out to enjoy what’s on offer.
“Living in the Goldfields, we want families to be able to enjoy great entertainment and activities close to home, without having to travel to Perth. We want to make sure our community has access to the same quality of experiences you’d expect to find in the city.
“We’re grateful to Lotterywest for its support. It helps us keep these events going and continue to offer something for local families to enjoy.”
