The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has confirmed its continued sponsorship support for the WA PGA Championship for another three years, with the Mayor making the announcement at yesterday’s closing ceremony at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course.

This is the 12th year the event has been held at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course, which is a testament to the course’s quality conditions and its ability to attract and host a tournament of this scale.

Endorsed by Council in May, the Host Venue Agreement will see the City having naming rights to the WA PGA Championship, to be held annually from 2024 – 2026. It also includes additional sponsorship benefits, including commercial broadcasting with a national and international reach.

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO, Andrew Brien, acknowledged the City’s commitment to supporting sporting opportunities in the City, and the economic benefits hosting major events provides for the region.

“The WA PGA Championship is a globally recognised event attracting players and spectators to our state-of-the-art golf course.”

“Not only does this showcase Kalgoorlie-Boulder as a premier sporting destination, but it demonstrates the immense value such events bring to our local businesses and community.”

“Major sporting events like the PGA provide significant economic stimulus for our cafes and restaurants, accommodation providers, local shops and tourism facilitators and attractions.”

Mr Brien highlighted the City’s commitment to all sports through the City’s grants and sponsorship programs.

“As a community that values sports of all kinds, we are dedicated to supporting all levels of sports from local sporting clubs and outstanding individuals through to large-scale national championships.”

“This year alone, the City has given financial support to both the Boulder and Kalgoorlie Bowling Clubs, the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association, the Goldfields Equestrian Centre, and several individual sporting high achievers through the Outstanding Individual Grants Program.”

“Later this week, we will welcome the Kalgoorlie Desert Race, which is the final event in the 2023 National Championship, bringing people from all over the country to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, another event we are proud to sponsor.”

“Last week’s PGA not only provided a unique landscape for pro golfers, comparable with prestigious courses from around the world but highlights that we are capable of standing alongside our metro counterparts in hosting successful state and national events.”
