Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents have one last chance to nominate a deserving person for the 2022 Australia Day Awards, for outstanding achievement during 2021, and I hope to see a rush of nominations come flooding through on Monday.
As the Mayor, I am often approached by people within our community with an amazing story to tell. More often than not, these people have made an outstanding contribution to our City, and often get very little recognition for their efforts. They are the “behind the scenes” people, who knuckle down, and get jobs done to keep our many community organisations and sporting groups running. These amazing people are the lifeblood of our community, and these are the people we want you to nominate for the Australia Day Awards.
You can nominate anyone from the community – a long time supporter, the parents of children playing a sport who help out each week, or any person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task for the benefit of a group or the community as a whole. This year there are two separate categories: Citizen Award and Young Citizen Award. You can also nominate a hard working community group or a fantastic community event for the Community Group or Event of the Year award – we want to recognise all of the fantastic ‘behind the scenes’ people who work hard to make Kalgoorlie-Boulder great. These awards acknowledge the hard work of individuals and community groups within Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and provide them with the thanks and recognition they deserve.
This year, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Australia Day Celebrations will cover morning and night with the Citizenship Ceremony and Awards being presented in the morning alongside the Boulder Rotary breakfast. Look forward to boot scooting, lamingtons, and free activities for the kids. Then later that day, the Sunset at the Soundshell concert kicks off with headliner Pinked and food trucks galore.
I urge the community as a whole – recognise your volunteers and community groups. It is their dedication and hard work, often behind the scenes, that helps to make our City great. Nomination forms are available from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Administration Building and the Town Hall.
Nominations close this Monday, December 20, 2021.
