Young artists across Kalgoorlie-Boulder are reminded that time is running out to get their entries in for the 2025 Junior Art Prize, with submissions closing this Friday, 16 May.
Now in its third year, the Junior Art Prize has become a much-anticipated local exhibition that encourages children aged 4–12 to showcase their imagination through visual art. Held at the Goldfields Arts Centre, the event offers a unique opportunity for young creatives to have their work professionally exhibited in a curated gallery setting.
This year’s theme, ‘Fantasy Pets’, invites children to dream big and create their very own imaginary companion. It’s about fun, storytelling, and self-expression, while also encouraging young artists to explore ideas of identity, friendship and belonging. Mayor Glenn Wilson said the Junior Art Prize is a celebration of local kids and the unique ideas they bring to life through art.
“Every year, the Junior Art Prize brings out the most incredible creativity in our local kids. You can really see their personalities shine through in their artwork,” Mayor Wilson said.
“As a parent myself, I know how special it is for children to feel proud of something they've made - and even more so when it’s displayed in a real gallery. This event gives them that chance, and we absolutely love seeing what they come up with.”
“I’d really encourage parents, teachers and community groups to get behind their young artists - help them enter, talk through their ideas, and come along to the exhibition. It’s a great way to be involved in something fun and meaningful.”
All finalists will be invited to the official Awards Day celebration on Saturday 24 May, complete with family-friendly activities, interactive art-based experiences, and immersive fantasy-themed experiences.
The exhibition will run from Monday 26 May to Friday 27 June, and be open to the public during weekday and Saturday hours. Entries close Friday 16 May 2025.
