A further extension has been granted for the Goldfields Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA), providing continued support for employers and helping to get more skilled labour into the Goldfields region.

The Goldfields DAMA will now run until April 2026.

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor Glenn Wilson said he was thrilled by the decision from the Hon Matt Thistlethwaite MP, Assistant Minister for Immigration, and the extension of the Goldfields DAMA was great news for the Goldfields.

“We thank Assistant Minister Thistlethwaite for his support and the continuation of our DAMA, which is a much-needed tool for Goldfields employers. The DAMA is an important program for our region, bringing in skilled and semi-skilled overseas workers for business, industry and services. We’re excited to be able to continue this program and keep supporting our employers and community.”

The Goldfields DAMA commenced in 2019 as a five-year labour agreement between the Federal Government, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Shires of Coolgardie, Dundas, Esperance, Leonora, Menzies and Ravensthorpe. In April 2024 it was extended for another year and the Shire of Laverton and more occupations were added to the DAMA.

The City is the Designated Area Representative (DAR) for the Goldfields DAMA and employs a full-time Migration Agreement Officer to process applications for endorsement from employers.

Eligible, approved employers can then use the DAR letter of endorsement to apply for a labour agreement with the Department of Home Affairs to bring in overseas workers through the Skills in Demand (subclass 482), Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (subclass 494) visas, for occupations which have critical skills shortages.

The Goldfields DAMA has 145 occupations for sponsorship, including key roles in the hospitality, health and social services, mining, construction and transport sectors.

Mayor Wilson encouraged Goldfields employers to make use of the Goldfields DAMA to help secure skilled staff.

“We welcome migrants to our community because of the tremendous benefits they bring to our community in both a social and economic sense. We know overseas workers make a significant contribution to our workforce and we’re excited about being able to keep operating the Goldfields DAMA.”

The City’s Migration Agreement Officer can assist with enquiries and can be contacted by calling (08) 9021 9600 or emailing dama@ckb.wa.gov.au
