Have your say on proposed 40 km/h CBD speed limits

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is inviting community feedback on a proposal to introduce 40 km/h speed limits on selected streets in the Kalgoorlie and Boulder central business districts.

The proposed speed zones include:

  • Maritana Street - between Piccadilly Street and Egan Street;
  • Brookman Street - between Lane Street and Porter Street;
  • Hannan Street - between Lane Street and Porter Street;
  • Egan Street - between Lane Street and Porter Street; and
  • Burt Street - between Lionel Street and Hamilton Street.

The proposal follows an engineering review of roads within the Kalgoorlie and Boulder CBDs, looking at factors including traffic volumes, operating speeds, crash history, pedestrian and cyclist activity, parking and loading, property access and activity at intersections.

Mayor Glenn Wilson said the consultation was an important opportunity for people who use the CBDs to have their say before Council considers the proposal further.

“We know people will have different views on this, and that’s exactly why we want to hear from the community,” Mayor Wilson said.

“Our CBDs are busy places. People are driving, walking, cycling, parking, making deliveries and running businesses, and we need to consider all of those things when we look at how these streets operate.”

“We’re putting the proposal and related research out there, explaining what we’ve looked at and are asking people who use these streets every day to tell us what they think.”

The City will consider community and stakeholder feedback alongside further technical assessment of the road network before the matter is presented to Council for further consideration.

Following Council’s decision, any final speed zoning proposal will require formal assessment and approval by Main Roads Western Australia.

Community members can view the proposed speed zones, background information, and complete the survey through the City’s Your Say platform yoursay.ckb.wa.gov.au.

Consultation closes on 22 November 2026.

Hard-copy surveys are available from the City’s Administration Building and can be returned there once completed.
