The City will mark the 2026 Australian Heritage Festival with a month-long program of exhibitions, tours and special events celebrating the stories, people and places that have shaped the Goldfields region.

Running from Friday 18 April to Monday 18 May 2026, the festival invites residents and visitors of all ages to explore Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s heritage through a diverse mix of free and ticketed events.

Program highlights include the ANZAC 110th Anniversary Special Exhibition, Making Home Under Southern Skies: Two Centuries of Chinese Heritage in Western Australia, the Our Stories Exhibition, the Pitman and Walsh Exhibition, and the Stories of Change Project.

A range of guided experiences will also offer unique insights into the region’s past, including the Boulder Historic Sites Walking Tour, Kalgoorlie and Boulder Town Hall Tours, In Paddy’s Footsteps: Walking Tour of Hannan Street, and the popular dark history tours exploring Boulder and Kalgoorlie’s lesser-known stories.

Special events throughout the month include High Tea at the Boulder Railway Station Platform, Such Was Life screenings, the Pitman and Walsh 100-Year Memorial, Justice, Duty, Legacy: The Story of Pitman & Walsh, Behind the Telegrams, Treasures at Home: Caring for Your Personal Collections, the Boulder Town Hall Open Day and Community Markets, and the International Museum Day Special Tour.

The program also features Goldfields First Nations and Afghan Story, alongside exhibitions and events reflecting the diverse cultural heritage of the region.

Mayor Glenn Wilson said the festival remains an important opportunity to celebrate and share the history of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

“For 14 years, Kalgoorlie-Boulder has proudly taken part in the Australian Heritage Festival, showcasing the places, people and stories that have helped define our community,” Mayor Wilson said.

“The strength of the program comes from the collaboration behind it, and I thank our local cultural organisations, historical groups and community partners for the work, care and expertise they bring each year.”

“I encourage residents and visitors alike to explore the program and take the opportunity to connect with the rich and diverse history of the Goldfields.”

The 2026 Kalgoorlie-Boulder Australian Heritage Festival program is delivered in partnership with Artgold, the Eastern Goldfields Historical Society, the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre, the Goldfields Repertory Club, the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre, the Museum of the Goldfields, the Police Historical Society and the National Trust.
